GRATICULE AND FIELD GUIDE

A graticule is a grid system used for measurements in various fields. It is often confused with the field guide by students and professionals. The aspect ratio of the graticule is 1:3/4, with horizontal measurements blocked in inch sections and vertical measurements blocked in 3/4 of an inch.

This measurement is commonly used in most television and theatrical movies, including widescreen and its variations.

Animation suppliers offer a variety of graticules with varying quality levels. If you're looking for a long-lasting graticule, it's worth investing in a professional-grade one rather than a cheaper student guide.

Both types work well, but the higher-quality graticule is more durable and will serve you better in the long run.

The graticule's grid system serves the purpose of creating precise field guides in the layout department, which determine what the camera will capture in a scene.

Graticule grid systems are available for purchase in 12 Field (FLD) maximum, 16 FLD maximum, and 32 FLD maximum sizes. Although larger units are available, they are seldom used in traditional hand-drawn layouts.
